In 1870, Peter Carl Fabergé took over his fathers jewellery workshop, which
had been established in St.Petersburg in 1842. Fabergés technical mastery in
goldsmith work put him on a par with the worlds renowned jewellers. He drew
his inspiration from the art of earlier generations which he found in the well-
stocked teasury of the Hermitage. As Supplier to the Imperial Court,he is best
known for his unique series of 50 jewelled Imperial Easter eggs dating from
1885-1916. All doors were open to this jeweller to the Tsars - his patrons included
most of the worlds Royalty and other wealthy clientele of his time.
Fabergés creative genius and his quest for originality, combined with his supreme
technical mastery are the hallmarks of his distinctive style. His immensely popular
Objects of Fantasy can be seen in some of the worlds most important museums
and private collections. Outstanding among these are the collections of H.M. Queen
Elizabeth II and Forbes Magazine. Today a new generation of Fabergé craftsmen
create not only exceptional jewellery but also objets dart for special occasions.
T he legacy and artistic tradition of Fabergé live on in the creations of the House of
Victor Mayer. Today, the Fabergé hallmark is used exclusively for objects which
have been authorized and which also bear the initials VM of the present
workmaster, Victor Mayer, as well as a serial number. Each object is produced in a
limited edition and registered in the firms archives; this ensures that in the future
no counterfeits can be passed off as genuine. A signed photo certificate attests that
each object conforms to the high standards of quality demanded by Fabergé.
